Classes will be held monthly on Wednesday nights from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the University of Phoenix campus in south Reno.

Unlike other education opportunities, our six-month series requires just two hours after work, once a month, and features guest instructors including local business leaders, who have tailored the program to the unique circumstances of young workers and entrepreneurs in Reno-Tahoe.

Individual Class Detail:

Class 2 - Obtaining & Using Influence - March 30  

Instructor: Jim Devolld, CEO & President, First Independent Bank

We've all heard the age-old saying, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." But are you effectively and respectfully leveraging those relationships to enhance your success? This class will outline the relationship between leadership and influence, different methods of influence and how to apply those methods to real life situations (both formal and informal).

Class 3 - Be Heard: Winning Methods of Public Speaking - April 27

Instructor: Gordon I. Zimmerman, Professor of Speech Communication, University of Nevada, Reno  

Studies show that a fear of public speaking ranks right up there with a fear of death! Don't let this common fear hold you back in your career. This class will cover effective means for combating nerves and keeping your presentations fresh. Have no fear? The class will also cover methods for conducting effective meetings and presentations.

Class 4 - Accelerating Your Personal Spending Power - May 25

So, you're not quite "The Donald," Oprah or Bill Gates, but sound personal finance skills are essential at any income level. This class will focus on setting long-term financial goals, investing, budgeting, as well as exploring the local environment and tax consequences of buying a home.

Class 5 - Importance of Community Involvement and Local Politics - June 30th         

Instructor: Tom Clark with Holland and Hart Law Firm

Tom is a long time YPN member and lobbyist. He will share his stories and wisdom about the importance of being involved in your community and how you can have a voice in local politics.   

Final Class - Management and Leadership Strategies- July 27th          

Instructor - Jim Annis, Founder and CEO of the Applied Companies

This final class will be lead by the energetic and experienced CEO of The Applied Companies - Jim Annis. Learn the importance and skills necessary to be a great manager and leader. Learn how to lead teams and set goals in an interactive and fun session.
